Check Auto Insurance Policies to Ensure Sufficient Coverage
Drivers are being advised to check their auto insurance policies to be sure they have sufficient protection from possible accidents involving people who fail to carry sufficient coverage.
According to New York attorney Michael S. Levine, an automobile accident specialist, drivers can often find themselves in a difficult financial position if an underinsured or uninsured driver causes an accident with them.
"One of the hardest things in my profession is to have to tell a client that the person who caused their accident either has no insurance, or only has the $25,000 minimum liability coverage required by law in New York State," said Levine.
Levine went on to say that if somebody suffers catastrophic injuries in a crash, the minimum liability coverage "may not even scratch the surface" of one's overall medical bills.
With that in mind, Levine is urging New York lawmakers to approve a bill that would require insurers to give customers coverage against uninsured and underinsured motorists that is equal to the amount of their liability coverage.
